Food, sleep, movement, sunshine and water. Simple routines that help kids feel and grow their best.
How tall a child becomes is mostly written in their genes. What parents can shape is everything around it: the food, rest and activity that help a growing body do its job well. None of it is complicated. All of it works best when it is a daily habit.
1. A colorful plate
Growing bodies need protein, calcium, vitamin D, zinc and magnesium. Dairy or fortified alternatives, eggs, beans, leafy greens, nuts and seeds cover a lot of ground.
2. Regular, deep sleep
School-age kids generally need 9 to 12 hours a night and teens 8 to 10. A steady bedtime and a screen-free last hour help a lot.
3. Move every day
Running, jumping and sports put healthy load on bones. Aim for an hour of active play a day.
4. A little sunshine
Sunlight helps the body make vitamin D. Short outdoor breaks add up — just remember sun protection for longer stays.
5. Water first
Swap sugary drinks for water or milk most of the time.
